Sifu Nate Tupper

Sifu Nate Tupper started training in traditional Chinese Martial arts at the age of six. His studies began with the Northern Shaolin Praying Mantis Kung Fu system. There he learned the fundamental basics of traditional Kung fu and got rooted in the art. During his 12 years with the Praying Mantis system, Sifu Nate studied under several great instructors and was taught numerous weapon sets and hand forms which emphasized many trapping hand techniques and Tan Tui (seeking leg) footwork which is famous for it’s intricate kicks. This provided a solid foundation for his future training.

Sifu Nate was also fortunate to get an education from his father Larry Tupper who is a certified Healing Tao Instructor. His father introduced him to traditional Chinese medicine, Acupuncture, Herbology and other healing practices from a very young age. This gave him a good understanding of Human Anatomy and Physiology. He was also taught soft arts such as Tai Chi, Qigong, and Meditation. Having a strong background in both the internal and external practices helped to ready him for his rigorous Shaolin Kung fu training under his Sigung (Grandmaster) Kevin Rice.

Sigung Kevin passed down Northern Shaolin Kung Fu to Sifu Nate in the old school way. This meant the training was often times intense and one needed to be highly focused and mentally tough to endure the workout. Sifu Nate was taught advanced body conditioning, sparring drills, Yoga routines, internal and external Qigong, Rapid Response Self Defense training, Knife and Stick fighting, Tai Chi Chuan, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Chin Na (Art of seizing and locking) and an array of other skills in addition to traditional Northern Shaolin hand and weapon forms, two man drills and full contact fighting. With his Kung fu brothers at his side, Sifu Nate practiced the numerous fighting applications until they became muscle memory and experimented with them during sparring which could include fighting with weapons like the escrima and shinai. The training environment was tough and exciting but also practical and meaningful at the same time and included lessons in philosophy, meditation, history, and strategy. All these tools helped balance out the hard and soft training making him a well-rounded Martial arts practitioner. Sifu Nate still maintains a healthy beginners attitude while furthering his knowledge of the Arts.

Sifu Nate Tupper has been teaching professionally for over eight years now and is a volunteer Self-Defense Instructor for Health classes at Nashua High School South. His intent is to spread and share his knowledge of Shaolin Kung Fu on to anyone who is interested in learning this world famous Martial Art.
