Everything I hoped for and more
SAF Kung Fu is everything I hoped for in a kung fu school and much, much more. Sifu Nate masterfully balances traditional kung fu instruction with practical self-defense applications from day one. SAF Kung Fu is definitely not a school where you spend the first week practicing stances and the next week practicing punches…you get great self defense moves, impressive kung fu forms, bag drills, stance training, and time to practice challenging techniques every class. Sifu Nate meets you at your level, wherever that may be. He has a knack for understanding ability and knowing how to challenge his students appropriately so that everyone improves and no one feels left behind. He also has an impressive knowledge of many forms of martial arts, their histories, and how they are related. He incorporates knowledge of kung fu history and culture into classes as well. With Sifu Nate, you really can go as far as you want: if you’re willing to put in the effort, he will be there every step of the way to further your knowledge and mastery of kung fu. Every class I went to was a blast and I walked away with new techniques every week.

Fun & Satisfying Workout Activity
I have only positive comments regarding my experience with SAF Kung Fu, Sifu Nate, and the classes. Every day I feel challenged and accomplished. I noticed changes immediately but after six weeks, I’ve achieved improved balance, confidence, muscle memory, coordination, flexibility and peacefulness. It’s also a fantastic, fun and satisfying workout!
Before joining, I felt very self-conscious about recent weight gain and wasn’t sure what to expect from as I’m overall clumsy by nature. I opted to start with a free introductory session and followed with 2 private lessons. I immediately felt satisfaction with what I was learning and was eager to continue by joining classes. I would like to note that there is no pressure whatsoever regarding joining, or subscribing to special belt programs. I pay monthly.
The classes are great and anyone could easily start with them. No one gets lost. I’ve gotten very specialized attention when needed. It was a pleasant surprise to find a balance of women in the group and more surprised to have a mix of people (different ages, shapes, sizes, abilities) working seamlessly well with each other. Everyone is well spirited and enthusiastic, excited to participate and share their skills. I was immediately comfortable in the environment and quickly lost the heavy self-conscious feeling.

Real deal workout
Sifu Nate never stops challenging you physically and mentally. He’s a great teacher with vast knowledge of martial arts. For him, training your fitness, your forms, and your self defense go hand-in-hand. SAF Kung Fu isn’t where to go to get “flowery fists and brocade legs.” Here we all work hard to build strong foundations in kung fu that carry over into self defense. Along the way we discover and develop new strengths and abilities. Training with Sifu Nate is deeply rewarding, worthwhile, and a whole lot of fun.

Great Kung Fu studio
Tired of marshal arts studios that seem to care more about your money than you? Check out Shaolin. Sifu Nate takes the time needed to know each of his students and ensures that each is appropriately challenged. This focus on the learning aspect and being very flexible with the family has meant that our two girls have been able to grow in skills while not feeling that they are simply part of a identity-less crowd that is being strung along with empty promises just to get us to sign them up for more classes. Shaolin is a great place to learn.

Sifu Nate is pleasant, patient, and able to inspire my 12-year-old son and me, at 53. We all enjoy each other and the class, another tribute to Sifu, for classes are not at all competitive and those better versed teach the greener students without complaint. I’ve also learned a great deal about Chinese culture and history from our wise sifu.
When I considered starting Kung Fu with my son, I wasn’t sure how well my over-50 body would withstand it. I was surprised at how much I can do in a short period of time. There are forms and techniques that I expect will take me a little longer than most to perfect, but sifu, his assistants, and classmates don’t ever make me feel self-conscious. Therefore, I enjoy working hard to perfect techniques at my own pace. I recently started taking a Tai Chi class, which complements the Kung Fu part of the regimen.
It’s so much more fun than a treadmill and works muscles all at once. Balance is a large part of it and improves quickly, even for the old lady of the class!!! Please come join us, no matter how old you are!! You’ll get a workout like never before, have fun at it, and meet great people!! Seriously, if I can do this, so can you!!! Come see!!!
